Meet Dr. Matthew Weinstein, a distinguished board-certified ophthalmologist and surgeon hailing from Northern New York. Dr. Weinstein is a seasoned professional with a passion for providing comprehensive eye care and specializing in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.
After completing his medical training, Dr. Weinstein pursued fellowship subspecialty training in Cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery under the guidance of Dr. Penny Asbell, M.D. at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. This intensive training equipped him with the expertise needed to excel in the field.
With nearly a decade of experience, Dr. Weinstein has been in active practice since 2016. His commitment to patient well-being is evident in his comprehensive approach to eye care, addressing medical conditions ranging from glaucoma, dry eye disease, corneal ulcers, and blepharitis.
Dr. Weinstein’s true passion lies in the intricate medical and surgical treatment of cornea disorders, particularly focusing on conditions like keratoconus, crosslinking, and corneal transplantation. His expertise extends to refractive surgery, where he performs procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and ICL surgery, providing patients with advanced vision correction options.
As a dedicated educator, Dr. Weinstein serves as a clinical instructor for ophthalmology residents at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Weinstein’s influence extends beyond clinical practice, as he has shared his knowledge on a national level. He has lectured for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as instructed advanced cataract surgery courses. With a special interest in keratoconus and corneal crosslinking, Dr. Weinstein’s contributions to the field have been recognized through his service on advisory boards for Glaukos, a testament to his commitment to advancing eye care innovations.
Beyond the surgical suite and lecture halls, Dr. Matthew Weinstein finds his truest joy in the embrace of his cherished family. The cornerstone of Dr. Weinstein’s life is his loving wife, Jen, and being a proud father to three beautiful boys, Jack, Logan and Liam. He draws strength and inspiration from the warmth and love within his home. They enjoy regularly traveling as a family to many local destinations within the Central and Northern New York areas.
Dr. Weinstein enjoys playing ice hockey, soccer and golf. When at home he loves to barbeque for family and friends.
